Meaning of salto antigénico

John Rene Plaut

salto antigénico
  33

ANTIGENIC LEAP or antigenic change, is when two strains of the same virus or two or more different virus strains combine forming a mixture of the surface antigens of the initial strains. The antigen change differs from the antigen drift which is the natural mutation of a virus over time, which causes the loss of immunity and the need for a new vaccine.
